PHASE 1

Research

My research focuses on understanding the target audience's needs. I started by analyzing market trends to assess future demand, as market research provides a broad view of industry dynamics and potential opportunities. I then surveyed students for systematic data collection, choosing surveys for their broader reach and ability to provide quick, quantitative insights.

Market research insights

$11.6 billion in revenue by 2026

is the expected figure to be reached in the online learning, reflecting its substantial growth and increasing adoption worldwide.

$404 billion market size by 2025

is the projected global figure for EdTech, with significant contributions from online learning platforms and digital content.
This underscores the urgent need to improve online platforms to adapt to learners' changing needs and presents a major opportunity for innovation in this expanding market.

Problem statement

In the context of online bootcamps within the EdTech industry, students face  the following challenges:
managing progress
scheduling group critiques
staying informed about important school events
These issues contribute to a lack of organization, coordination, and engagement, hindering the overall learning experience and potentially impacting student success.

PHASE 2

Define

Building upon the research findings, I successfully crafted detailed personas. I did this to better understand the target audience's needs, motivations, and behaviors. This user-centered approach ensures that design decisions are tailored to real users, enhancing the overall effectiveness and usability of the online learning platform.

Define

Building upon the research findings, I successfully crafted detailed personas. I did this to better understand the target audience's needs, motivations, and behaviors. This user-centered approach ensures that design decisions are tailored to real users, enhancing the overall effectiveness and usability of the online learning platform.

Persona

Brainstorming ideas

After defining personas, I moved to brainstorming to generate diverse solutions that address the specific needs identified. This creative process ensures that the ideas focus on enhancing the user experience, usability, and engagement based on real user needs.

Develop an interactive dashboard

that showcases students performance data through progress charts

Create a calendar feature

that enables students to view and manage their meetings and school events

Improve the scheduling of group critique meetings

by adding a feature that displays the facilitator's name before booking sessions

Implement automated reminders on the home page

notifying students of upcoming meetings, incomplete tasks, and impending deadlines

Introduce live chat assistant

that allowing students to seek answers and assistance related to the course

Incorporate shortcuts

that  helps students easily access to the main links and topics of the course

User flows

After creating personas and brainstorming ideas, I developed user flows to map each user’s journey, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience. To enhance organization and scheduling, I’ll add a calendar feature to the dashboard, allowing users to manage group critique and mentor sessions effectively.

Backed by research evidence, I am confident that integrating a centralized calendar system will create a comprehensive user experience that aligns well with the specific needs and goals of our users.

PHASE 3

Visual Design

After defining user flows, I designed and refined the layout, visuals, and functionality, using iterative prototyping and brainstorming to create an engaging, user-centric interface.

PHASE 4

Testing

As I was creating user flows, I faced uncertainty regarding the optimal  design solution for users. To address this, I implemented A/B testing.

PHASE 5

Video Prototype

Subsequently, I proceeded to prototype two user flows and conducted testing to assess their effectiveness.
First prototype: scheduling group crits session via calendar
Second prototype: cancel or reschedule mentor session via calendar

Learnings and next step

From this project, I've gained valuable insights into the significance of thorough testing, recognizing that the more testing conducted, the more refined the design becomes.
To inform my next steps, I conducted a brief user survey, revealing that tracking group crits attendance is crucial for all participants, and a 24/7 live chat support feature would be highly beneficial. As a result, my upcoming focus will be on developing these user flows.
